Preceptorship

After completing a didactic and CSL you will need to precept to practice. We offer preceptorships ranging from 1 to 5 days, with longer placements available upon special request. Some students have chosen to remain with us for up to one month.

Please note that copies of your 40-hour didactic SANE-A or SANE-P training and 16-hour CSL certificates are required before you can register.

The Preceptorship Experience

Our preceptorship is comprehensive and may include sessions focused on:

  • Language and trauma-informed positioning
  • Structure identification
  • Speculum insertion coaching and technique instruction
  • Anoscope insertion (as applicable)
  • Blind swabbing
  • Separation and traction techniques
  • Fox swab and Foley technique
  • Scenario facilitation methods
  • Repetitive skill practice facilitation and learner coaching
  • Photography/evidence support (as applicable per policy)
  • Forensic interviewing
  • Forensic examinations
  • Clinical documentation
  • Billing practices
  • The role of the advocate
  • Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings
  • Child Advocacy Center (CAC) visits
  • Follow-up care
  • Health clinics at our domestic violence shelter

This preceptorship is designed to provide hands-on patient interaction. Depending on staffing and case availability, you may also have the opportunity to participate in 24/7 on-call coverage.

Schedule

  • Office hours: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–4:30 PM with on call 24/7 opportunities
  • Weekends: On-call only
