SANE/FNE Training

If you are a victim of domestic violence or sexual assault and need assistance, documentation of injuries is provided by calling our HELPline 256-716-1000 and requesting to speak with a forensic nurse.

The Forensic Nurse Examiner Program is dedicated to providing essential training and educational opportunities for professionals throughout the year. Crisis Services stands out as Alabama's sole provider of Adult/Adolescent Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training.

The program offers three distinct training pathways:

  • SANE-A Training: A comprehensive 40-hour course focusing on adult and adolescent populations.
  • SANE-P Training: A specialized 40-hour course designed for pediatric patients.
  • Combined SANE-A/P Training: An extensive 64-hour didactic course that encompasses both adult/adolescent and pediatric training. CCFE is Alabama’s sole provider of a combined SANE-A/P training.
  • IPV Training: A comprehensive 40-hour training providing healthcare providers with the knowledge and practical skills needed to recognize, assess, document and respond to individuals experiencing Intimate Partner Violence (IPV).

Additionally, other valuable training sessions are available, including topics on Domestic Violence and Strangulation, as well as a Mock Trial experience to help participants apply their knowledge in a practical setting. These programs aim to enhance the skills and expertise of forensic nursing professionals, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle complex cases with sensitivity and care.
